Born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland, Lorne’s introduction to music was immediate. His father was a composer with a residential recording studio and from a very early age Lorne was demonstrating an interest in music by making his first recording at the age of three (see Youtube). Surrounded by musical instruments and mixing with many of the worlds top musicians Lorne started producing jingles for radio stations at the age of ten using one of the first Fairlight Music Computers. His formal education commenced as a Music Scholar at Fettes in Edinburgh, continuing his music studies at Trinity College of Music and The London College of Music.
Lorne began his film music career in Hollywood at Hans Zimmer’s, Remote Control Productions in Santa Monica as an Intern, making coffee. Very soon he was providing additional music on major motion pictures, including, The Pirates of the Caribbean, The Simpsons Movie, Angels & Demons, Iron Man, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. He also composed additional music on the 2009 Golden Globe nominated film Frost/Nixon.
Lorne’s role as a score producer on The Dark Knight earned him a Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture. He was music producer and composer on the, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 video game, and score producer and co composer with Hans Zimmer of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score. Lorne also produced the score and composed additional music for Christopher Nolan’s Inception which also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score. He composed additional music for The Dark Knight, Inception, Rango, Kung Fu Panda 2, Sherlock Holmes, A Game of Shadows, Madagascar 3 and The Dark Knight Rises. Lorne co composed the score with Hans Zimmer for the successful US tv series The Bible. And the partnership continued with the two scoring the feature film, Son of God and the NBC series “AD The Bible Continues”.
Lorne has found additional success in the video game world, composing the music for many of the most successful video games including, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, for which he earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Music, Skylanders: Giants and the newly released, Assassin’s Creed III which earned him his second BAFTA nomination for Best Original Music. He also received a nomination for the BSO Goldspirit Award for Best Score for a Video Game. An operatic recording of the Assassins theme also topped the UK CLASSICAL MUSIC charts in April 2015. He also composed the score for the much-anticipated video game, Beyond: Two Souls, which features performances by Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe gaining worldwide acclaim for his score.
Feature Films Lorne has composed the scores for have included. “The Bible” “ Ironclad, The Sweeney, Not Another Happy Ending (starring Karen Gillian of Doctor Who) and Side by Side. He composed the score for the BBC and Sundance Channel’s TV mini-series, Restless, starring Charlotte Rampling, Hayley Atwell and Rufus Sewell, for which Lorne received the Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music Score. Lorne worked alongside director, Scott Walker for the film The Frozen Ground starring John Cusack, Nicolas Cage and Vanessa Hudgens and his score for the highly secretive feature documentary Salinger, received high critical acclaim. In collaboration with british composer, Rachel Portman Lorne completed the music for 10×10′s feature documentary, Girl Rising, directed by Academy Award nominee Richard E. Robbins and featuring narration by actresses such as Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett. More recently Lorne has scored.
